Ms. Livingston has given us one of the most fun looks at gods, goddesses, demons and angels I’ve read in a long time. Somehow an evil threesome has managed to escape from the underworld and is wreaking havoc without permission of their goddess. She sends Akki, her demon hunter, to get them back before they destroy the earth. At the same time her former lover who’s in charge of heaven sends his angel Sarena to get rid of them. There are lots of battles between good and evil with all the weapons at their command. Even more important there’s a great love story that develops as Akki and Sarena find out they work better as a team. Two of the demons provide great comic relief as they adapt to their human bodies. And then there’s Sora, an angel who’s never been to earth before. She’s sent to watch over Sarena but the duo finds themselves having to watch out for her too as she learns to drive a car or takes off soaring into the sky with some migrating geese.

I highly recommend this book to fantasy lovers. It made me laugh, cry and keep reading to the very end. Ms. Livingston’s sense of humor always keeps the story moving. There are so many memorable scenes that I keep smiling about. Since the setting of the book is in Japan the author provides a glossary at the beginning to help explain who the characters are, what the names mean and give a little insight about the gods and goddesses.
