| Hired sight-unseen by a successful horror novelist who lives his life in utter seclusion, researcher Alexandra "Lexi" Caldwell's assignment is to look into the disappearance of millionaire media magnate and his wife. Thirty years ago, during a costume party on a dark and storming night, the host and hostess vanished from their island mansion during a brief power outage. One of their male employees also departed without a trace that night, leaving behind lots of speculation but no answers. Lexi travels to Skull Island where current owner Gable Talbot plans to renovate and build a luxury resort. As a neophyte psychic, Lexi uncovers more mysteries than answers and the sexy developer has secrets of his own.
I thoroughly enjoyed this well-written, subtle, romantic suspense novel. It had the feel of a cosy whodunit, in a modern version of an Agatha Christie-like classic. The setting was fantastic and the idea of a baffling disappearance that took place three decades ago on a secluded island makes for a wonderful scenario. The plot was well-paced and the dialogue and character interaction was very believable. This novel contained some foreseeable moments but also had it's share of unpredictable twists and turns. I did find the mystery a little too subtle for my tastes as I prefer my romantic suspenses to be more interactive, a little more of a whodunit. The love scenes are sensual and used to move the story along. Lexi and Gable seem perfectly suited to each other and even though the hero is obviously keeping things from the heroine he still comes across as protective and trustworthy. This was such a romantic, adventurous, thrilling read; a skillful suspense story with a fantastic ending. I recommend to suspense fans, as well as contemporary romance readers who enjoy spine-tingling situations.
