Macy Barnes is a man Jack Trexlor hasn't seen since High School. He and friend John Lupo talk him into taking chances that he's usually avoided. He seems to be able to find trouble without their help but is unable to say no to a fishing trip into the desert of Arizona. This time danger seems to find them all as armed men turn their adventure with Macy's wife and John's girlfriend into a fight for their life.

T.F. Torrey has written an excellent story of these five people trying to survive killers coming after them for no apparent reason. The story is 'told' by Jack, one of those men who could be anything he wants but some choices in life have set him back. It seems like he's harder on himself than anyone else could be and often gentler in his handling of others than many would be. John Lupo is the unique leader to the group. I find it interesting that the author was able to show a deep camaraderie and growing respect between the two that helps Jack find some direction he needs for his personal growth. The other players are the kind of people we all know in our lives whether as leaders, followers, whiners, villains.

I think Mr. Torrey crafts this story just right to show how small choices, the right moral choices, may or may not make a big difference in life. It often depends on the decisions others make as a result. This is not a light hearted read but it is one that I really enjoyed.
