| Don Harris is a piano player on the run after accidentally killing a Chicago Mobster's son. He is hiding out in Palm Springs where he meets a pretty blonde girl who is in town for a convention. It turns out that she is the sister of his best friend, she foolishly lets Don's location slip and all of a sudden he is on the run again. Out of money Don accidentally walks in a gay bar where he meets Harlan. He allows Harlan to pick him up hoping it will give him a place to hide out for a while. Harlan brings out feelings in Don that he didn't know he could have for another man.
Reading this story was an enjoyable way to pass the time for me. It was well written and took me back to growing up in Palm Springs in the 70's and the wonderful memories of that time in my life. The descriptions of the town and area of town are spot on, that I could almost feel the desert's convection heat bearing on me. Don is a complex character and the author does a good job of showing his confusion as he begins to have feelings for Harlan and how he tries to justify them with flashbacks to the past. Harlan is also a complex character, doing what he needs to do to survive, you think he needs to be coddled because Don thinks that, but he shows that he has an inner and outer strength equal to but different than Don's. There is plenty of sweaty man on man action throughout the book, some of it is sensual and some has an erotic voyeuristic quality. This would be a good book for those who like the 70's action movies, even though there aren't a lot of car chases there is definitely a plenty of action and drama.
