| Ruth Cavanaugh is busy as CEO of a new security firm. The work and stress of building the business doesn't explain the dreams she's been having of Jake Fitzgerald. He's a multi millionaire playboy who always seems to be in control. She's been badly burned by men who want to control her in and out of bed. Seems Jake doesn't have a chance no matter what he does.
Keziah Hill builds a great storyline of two people who are much deeper than their public persona. Ruth and Jake always seem to be in control of their life, their work. The author reminds us how difficult that kind of demeanor is to maintain if there's no one to let you be yourself. Ruth is not exactly the submissive type men seem to want her to be but she is capable, professional and a good person! Ms. Hill shows us that Jake has a similar fate. Women see him as gorgeous and rich, a feather in their cap as a date, a great man to make them look better. Seems no one sees him as the man he feels he is. There’s a great progression to this story showing Ruth’s fears, thoughts, history and her mix of lust and aversion to Jake. She’s never talked to him, has never had a bad experience with him. Jake is one heck of a patient man as he proves while waiting for Ruth to work through her fears. There’s a lot of really good eroticism in this tale but the way she builds the personalities of the characters is what makes it a great book for me.
