| Dara Neilan is about to have an experience so out of this world that
her mind can't even begin to conceive of it. It all starts when a
mysterious man shows up at a birthday party she is attending and
persuades her to meet with him in three days time. Rowan Mackey is
Dara's destined mate, the man she will hopefully one day come to love
and cherish. He just has to convince her that what he is about to tell
her is real. However, when she comes to meet him, Dara almost dies as
a Hound shoots her with an arrow. The only way Rowan can save her is
to make love to her. Dara is freaking out. She can't make love with a
stranger! Dara may be injured but she isn't about to be raped. What
happens instead is a melding of minds and bodies, an erotic experience
that Dara can't believe is taking place. This is just the first of
many adventures Dara is about to have with Rowan in the coming months.
He has to prove to her that they are destined to be together forever,
but he also has to protect her from the Hounds determined to kill her.
Prince Donn and the Hounds are out to stop a prophecy from being
fulfilled, a prophecy that Dara plays a big role in. Will the Hounds
get to her before she can complete her mission?
Destined is truly an Irish adventure. Filled with Irish and Celtic myths, characters, and connections, Destined will have you on the edge of your seat as you try to figure out how Dara fits into the destiny prophesized for her. While I struggled to get into this story at the beginning, due to the use of so many different Irish words and phrases, eventually I got past that to see the beauty of this story, a love story truly befitting Dara, who has struggled for most of her life to come to terms with love. Rowan is an apt mate for her and he'll do whatever is in his power to ensure her happiness, even though she constantly rejects him. Learning to trust each other is half the battle in this story and Ms. Madigan truly makes this a battle of wills. Destined is the first Ellora's Cave title from Ms. Madigan but it shows high promise in its fantasy setting, plots of mythic proportions, and the bold and brash love between Rowan and Dara.
