| Ellis is known is design circles as “The Room Whisperer”. The young designer just seems to know what a room needs and that talent has made her budding design business a success despite the bad mouthing of her former employer Cynthia. Now the two are in a show house competition. Ellis is determined to make her room special, a home office for working mothers, and her perfectionism irks the owner of the contracting company Simon, but he just can’t stay away. There is someone sabotaging the participants of the contest, items are missing or damaged and Simon is determined to find out what’s going on, despite the distractions.
I really enjoyed this story. I have been to a few show houses and this story illustrates the process of designing them pretty well. Ellis is an unusual character, a bit strange with her “unhappy” rooms and “arguing” colors. I could feel the construction crew and Simon’s consternation which was pretty funny. Cynthia makes a great potential villain with her cowering interns and temper tantrums. I also loved Ellis’ flamboyant assistant Remi, his insights helped me understand a lot. The love story between Simon and Ellis was a bit rocky, but always entertaining with some very good love scenes and the author wound everything up nicely.
