Etaoine S'henhess longs to escape the underground city where her people dwell in fear of an unseen enemy that may no longer exist. Part of a small alliance trying to free their race of shapeshifters and save them from the fatal paranoia that swept through their populations, she knows that they must risk great peril to reach the starship that will take them to freedom.

When Etaoine is chosen as God's Mate by the High Priest for the Mayavore Festival, she knows what an incredible opportunity has been afforded her. Rith knows the way past to the traps, through the ocean to reach the starship. Their mating before everyone in the sacred ceremony opens his mind to her. But as she is overwhelmed by one climax after another to the crowd's delight, the promised vision of the goddess comes to her, showing her a blue-green planet and a man, not of her race, who is her lovemate, her destiny.

But will they reach the starship alive so she can out seek the planet shown to her, and the man destined to be her love? And if she finds him, would he be willing to accept a shapeshifter?

Destiny Earth is the first book in the Ailunnean Shapeshifter series from eXtasy Books. The detail and creativity of this science fiction piece is remarkable. The length of the story made it necessary for the authors to include a lot of information quickly and this reviewer found that she really had concentrate to follow the storyline and become immersed in this new world and culture. But the writing and strong characterization make the effort worthwhile, as do the sensual scenes that could only be staged within a story of a race of beings with very open views of sexuality. An entertaining story and a enticing opening to the forthcoming series.
