Fallon Maddox and her four foster brothers, dubbed the Maddox Clan, were known for being "trouble alone, terror on wheels when together." They've returned to Seattle to attend the funeral of their foster father Gregory Maddox. The police have ruled his death as gang related but the evidence doesn't support that finding. The Maddox children aren't going to let the investigation close quietly, especially when it appears that the Seattle Police Department may be covering up what really happened.

Ian Cavanaugh is the homicide detective who catches the call for the murder at the skate park. He realizes that his job has gotten infinitely harder when he learns the identity of the victim. Will Ian's personal ethics allow him to properly work this case or will he follow the example of the boys in blue and continue to discriminate against the Maddox Clan? And what is he going to do about the very tempting Fallon Maddox?

I know it is so cliché to say that the main characters in a story were "made for each other," but I've got to do it. It's been a long time since I've read a story where you could feel the connection between the hero and heroine snap into place. Fallon and Ian complimented one another perfectly. They just instantly understood the other. That's not to say that their relationship was fraught with conflict and periods where their true motivates were doubted but it worked and was, more importantly, believable. Fallon is the epitome of a heroine written by Aliyah Burke. She's strong, fiercely independent and capable of handling her own, yet vulnerable due to events in her past that would cripple a normal person. Ian fits her because he accepts Fallon as is and offers the strength and comfort she needs during those human moments.

In my very biased opinion, Aliyah Burke has another winner with The Detective's Lover. It's a phenomenal love story and whodunit rolled into one great tale. It's one of those books that you get upset every time your reading time is interrupted because you don't want to miss what's coming next. This is one book that doesn't disappoint.
