| King Andor's daughter has come of age to pick a husband. The king has invited all royalty and acceptable suitors in the area to compete for her hand in marriage. All that is except for Talin of Goldone. Talin is what the king calls 'unnatural' meaning he is a shape-shifter, with the ability to change into a golden falcon. King Andor despises all that is not human. Talin feels that his kingdom has been insulted and plans to make his feelings known. He ends up kidnapping Princess Aliya and taking her to Goldone. More afraid of heights than of the huge beast-man, Aliya tries to apologize for what she feels was a mistake but Talin refuses to listen. Aliya finds herself attracted to Talin. Talin feels that she is his chosen mate but does not discuss his feelings. Read to find out how King Andor retaliates and what becomes of Talin and Aliya.
The Devil's Concubine by Jaide Fox is an exciting adventure filled with passion and intrigue. It tells a story of prejudice between the beast-men and the humans. Both groups showing arrogance when it comes to their own people find that there is strength and weakness among all. Talin is a strong king that cares about the people of his kingdom. Yet he is almost vulnerable when he feels that Aliya is afraid of him and might consider him a monster. He wants her to see him as a person with a mind and a heart. Aliya is very perceptive and finds herself drawn to Talin. She sees the good in him and wishes everyone could get along. She does not understand the prejudice she sees and is shocked to learn the feelings of the people of her kingdom. The story is described in such a way as to make this magical kingdom come alive for the reader. The emotions and thoughts of the characters are successfully conveyed through a well-written dialogue. The passion sizzles through the interactions between Talin and Aliya. Described in steamy explicit detail, the author's words stimulate the senses and the relationship between these two is definitely magical. My favorite scene in the book involves a very wise dragon that comes to the aid of Talin and Aliya. I feel this book is entertaining and will be appreciated by readers that enjoy fantasy romance.
