Tessa Jane Creager left home seven years ago to pursue an Indian who had raped and killed her sister. After accomplishing that, she remained in the wide-open country known as T.J., the bounty hunter! Whenever she arrived in some town to turn in a hunted man, she would get a room in the local hotel, order a bath, then pull out her only dress and visit the saloon to drink and gamble. After this latest capture, she decided it was time to check in at home, where only her brother, sister-in-law, and niece had survived the massacre. However, when she reached her home place, her brother and sister-in-law had been killed by Guerrero, an Indian who was well known and pursued by many bounty hunters.

T.J.’s niece, Emily, was staying with the local schoolteacher until someone came to claim her. Emily loved T.J. even though she had not seen her since she was a toddler. Thus began the dilemma T.J. would have to work through; should she take care of Emily or go after Guerrero for killing the rest of her family. And what about that man she had recently met in the saloon, U.S. Marshall Jack McCay? How would he “figure” into the mix?

Ms. Brenda Williamson did an incredible job of writing this compelling novel of suspense, intrigue, family loyalty and love! Devil’s Kiss is a book which will capture the hearts of all readers, whether historical lovers, suspense or any other aspect of romance. The sexual encounters are frequent and explicit; however, they do not dominate the story or detract from the story of the wondrous aspects of falling in love and finding out what is most important in life.

The fact that both T.J. and Jack have hidden agendas because of their pasts is not surprising. However, the undeniable chemistry which exists between them is so mesmerizing that it is obvious that Ms. Williamson’s skills are extraordinary. I haven’t read this author before, but I will look for her in the future. This is a brilliant work which will delight anyone who reads it.
