Bastion was finally ready to do the mission that he had trained for most of his life. When he get's to the city ready to get his target, he meets Vashi, Erasas's friend. Erasas is the son of the man he's sworn to kill, and now he's wondering what he's going to do, because everything is different now. His attraction to Vashi is unexpected and unwelcome, but he can't seem to do anything else. Will he be able to finish what he came to do?

Vashi is a friend to Erasas, the leaders son, and that's all he can be. He's accepted that, and once he meets Bastion he's more than ready to move on. But will he be able to leave?

I got a little confused about the relationships in this story. I'm not sure if there was supposed to be a relationship between Erasas and Vashi. At first I got the feeling there was not (it was forbidden), then later I thought they had a sexual relationship because of some things that were said. All this confusion made the relationship between Bastian and Vashi not work for me, the passion was there at times, but not always. In the end they were using each other to get out of the mess they were in more than anything. I never really felt like I got into Bastians head and understood what was going on with him. I would have liked to have known more about his life growing up, and how he thinks, it would have made the story richer and I could have sympathized with him more. There was so much going on at times I felt like I was loosing the thread of the story, and I believe that's another reason why I didn't feel the relationship between Vashi and Bastian. The world it was set in was pretty interesting, and the secondary characters could have had their own story. The Devil You Know is an interesting story with a lot of potential.
