| Home Depot was definitely not where he would normally consider going if he was trying to pick up a woman; still, that’s exactly where he found his perfect, almost, woman! He heard her before he saw her; well, at least he heard her boyfriend yelling and heard her soft response. Before he realized it, he was face to face with the couple and the two children. When they parted company, his cell phone number was in her pocket. Now all he had to do was wait…
She did, finally, call, but warned that she might have to hang up suddenly. Peter Franklin decided that Lisa needed to feel that someone cared about her, not himself, so he set out to convince her how important she was to him. Lisa should be off limits to him, because she lived, and had two children, with her boyfriend. However, the abuse she was enduring was enough for Peter to justify trying to take care of her. Ms. Gregory has told a wonderful poignant story about pitfalls of relationships and how despondent one can get when subjected to abuse. She uses these characters to show that everything is never completely black and white and that, sometimes, shades of gray need to be addressed. I found this narrative, with its open ending, very emotional. This is definitely a must-read!
