| Afraid that their daughter will be a spinster at the age of twenty-one, her parents pressure Cassandra to marry Emerson Bryce. Her heart still belongs to Frederick Adair, the love of her life. Even though he's listed as dead during the Civil War she can't forget him. Besides that there's something about Emerson that keeps her holding back. She wants a devoted Christian. His heart doesn't seem to be in it even though he attends church regularly.
Cindy K. Green pens a romance where everyone seems to be pushing Cassandra into something she's not ready for. The parent's aren't very likeable in their attempt to get a son-in-law that they approve of. Cassandra is a much more discerning person who sees flaws in Emerson's personality that don't bode well for their future. As an inspirational book this one fits Christian beliefs into a storyline that's been done too many times in every genre. The best part of the tale is Cassandra's faith in herself during a time when men often made all the decisions for their women.
