Neil Vanner struggles with the impending holidays. Before his daughter Susie was killed he enjoyed them so much. Seeing children singing and playing touches his heart with memories. Someday he hopes to have more children and a wife to enjoy the holidays with. Claire is a pagan whose god and goddess bring her comfort while she still enjoys some of the Christian festivities. Children bring a sadness into her life. She's unable to have them, isn't sure if she ever wants them, even through adoption. Can these two find a way to enjoy one another with different dreams for their lives?

Mary Caelsto pens a tale that blends both the joys and sadness of two peoples' lives that seem to be increased by the holidays. For those who suffer losses like Neil's and Claire's they can be a time of both hope and grief. Each character is lovingly crafted as unique in their beliefs and wants. It's easy for the reader to relate to them in many ways as their feelings for one another are battered by the ‘what ifs' of the future that remains unknown no matter how anyone tries to predict it.

This is a great tale of building a new relationship when the past hasn't been kind. There's some interesting information about pagan beliefs versus Christian. The upbringing of the two main characters is a different as their religions. There's more introspection than dialogue that drives the story but both are well done. This is a good example of two people whose minds are so cluttered with information that they may have to let their hearts guide them.
