| Djinni and the Geek is a great expression of a modern "I dream of Jeannie". Anissa the Djinni has been trapped in a magical puzzle box for hundreds of years, allowed out only when a "master" solves the puzzle and opens the box. Then she is bound to grant three wishes before being forced back to her prison. To make matters worse, whenever she is released from the box Murdoch, her worst enemy -- the evil wizard who forced her into the box to begin with -- finds her in whatever time and place she happens to be in and torments her.
But Anissa is hoping that this time things will be different. This time, her master is David Garvaglia, a university professor who can wield a sword as well as he can hack a computer, and who has an honest-to-goodness dragon as his close personal friend. Anissa is surprised when David doesn't jump at the chance to have a magical djinni grant him any three wishes he can imagine. Instead he promises to find a way to free her from her eternal servitude. Anissa finds herself falling for David despite his scruffy looks. She's drawn to his thoughtfulness, humor, and generosity. But with every moment that brings David and Anissa closer together, comes the certainty that Murdoch will find her again in this time, and the two of them fear they won't have the ability to defeat an evil sorcerer with hundreds of years of experience. While I was hoping that the author would play up the genie twist of this book a little more, and I thought the sexual tension was underdeveloped, I still found Djinni and the Geek to be a lovely story that combined a great mix of humor, sweetness and hot romance. The characters are lively and well drawn, and the story moves forward at a nice pace. I will look forward to reading more of Ms. Spencer Pape's books.
