| Newly divorced, Emily Vincent Bryant, and her son, Jeremy return to her home in St. Charles. Emily not only hopes to find some fire and spirit once again in her life, but hopes to bring some happiness into Jeremy’s. He is having a hard time adjusting to the divorce and Emily believes a dog might be the answer. When she answers an advertisement about a dog, she never imagined the owner to be overly friendly and helpful. Daniel is a fireman and the owner of Sir Isaac Newton. After Emily explains the situation with Jeremy, Daniel is eager to help. As they share a picnic in the park and Jeremy gets to know Sir Isaac, Emily is thrilled to see the happiness once again reflected on her son’s face. She also is able to enjoy some conversation with Daniel that puts a good feeling back into her life. With a little help from Daniel and Sir Isaac, it appears that Emily and Jeremy may finally have found that renewed spirit once again.
First off, I must say I love the cover of Dog Days of Summer with the dog in the corner. Next, every time I read a story by Kim Watters, I am always thrown into the way the characters always appear believable. By taking an irritated child who suffers through a divorce, she digs deep into Jeremy’s heart, allowing him to be human in every way. The reader could almost share in Jeremy and Emily’s pain and emotions. There is great chemistry here with the three when they share time together, and bringing in Sir Isaac only makes it a warmer read. I highly recommend this delightful read.
