| Jesse Madding, an extraordinary human, Gideon his vampire lover and Emma the empath who loves them both have been burned out of their home. They find the firebug but it's not as easy to find a new home. Once they do all their friends are invited to a housewarming that becomes stranger than any of them could have imagined in their wildest nightmare. Gideon can no longer remember his lovers. He thinks and acts like it's 1880, long before he became a protector in the city of Chicago.
This duo writing as Jamie Craig continues to astound me with what they can do with the characters I've come to love through the six books in this series. There is usually so much caring and sharing among the primary characters of Gideon, Jesse and Emma. This time Jesse and Emma are put into a situation where other people would give up and run from a vampire in a killing mood. Somehow, no matter what they have to go through, they never give up on him. The situations, the conversations, the confrontations are so well done and real we can almost forget that we're reading because it plays out so well, at least in my mind. The characters of friends Derek, Michelle and Black John are true to form and well done. I get so wrapped up in the tale I'd like swear when Gideon's actions give Michelle even more reasons to hate him and try to pull Jess and Emma away. She's one of those reoccurring characters that makes me grind my teeth even though she helps occasionally. Black John who Gideon doesn't like, mostly because magic is one of the things he fears, is able to find the cause of the problem. But only Gideon can choose whether to join the evil or love those who love him. Again this writing duo has given me great entertainment in a book I highly recommend.
