Eddie Stephens was a serial killer known as the Angel of Death and died in the Potomac River six years ago, according to the FBI. But psychic Megan Beaumont knows better. She narrowly escaped being victim then. And she is on the killer’s list now.

She left her job and moved to the desert when FBI Agent Jack Montgomery ended their affair and returned to his wife. She felt Jack was married to the Bureau, and she has never told him of their child, Emmie. Megan runs Desert Oasis, a clothing boutique, and tries to suppress her memories of Jack and the awful nightmares that haunt her.

Her grandmother Marie sees the psychic talents as a gift, passed down through generations. Megan’s mother killed herself, probably because of the “gift.” And Megan fears that Emmie has it as well.

Jack is working on the current case. The new victims all have the same initials as the earlier ones, and the murders are following the same gruesome routines. All the new victims are in some way connected to Jack. His ex-wife, assistant and former lovers are targets. Both Megan and Emmie are on the list. Researching the old cases and trying to stop the new ones is gory and grueling.

Dan Martinez, Jack’s partner and buddy, is the one who informs him of his daughter’s existence. The investigation is hampered by a leak within the bureau, and Jack is suspected of being the killer. Meanwhile, Jack and Megan attempt to rebuild their relationship.

It would have been interesting to delve more deeply into the killer’s motives and time frame. Megan’s connections to his thoughts are disturbing and compelling. Author Eason gives just enough clues to help the reader suspect the truth. This is a very satisfying tale of suspense.
