Annie is a modern day woman who enjoys her freedom and men. When she meets Joel, Annie is powerfully attracted to him. They go out, but Annie becomes quickly frustrated with his lack of sexual advances. After Annie brings this up, Joel reveals he is a devote Orthodox Jew, and will not permit himself to have sex before marriage. He is, however, determined to win Annie.

DOUBLE MITZVAH, by Erica DeQuaya, begins at the end. She paints a charming picture of Annie’s and Joel’s married life right off, and their very active sexual libidos. The author also goes into detail about the Jewish faith and certain rituals, which was fascinating. However, the reader knows in the beginning that the couple ends up happy. Of course it’s an erotic novella with romantic elements, and romance readers are expecting a happy ending, but there is no tension or drive to figure out what happens. The story is written in first person from Annie’s point of view, and she flashes back to reveal how the couple met and married. But the details of the very old faith rituals were worth the read. Though I would have preferred to see the story happen in a more linear fashion, I do recommend the book for the wonderful love and commitment Annie and Joel struggle to obtain in this modern day world.
