Like most single mothers in the world today, Liz Jordan lives through her children. Knowing that she has to get her twin sons out of the city to keep them from bad influences she decides to go back to Eastlake. Not only would this move provide a better life for her sons but Liz would also be near her friends from college. Her only fear was that she wouldn't do well on her new job at the hospital. It doesn't take long for her to realize that there is something terribly wrong on her unit and she had a lot of work ahead of her. She's bombarded by the problems on the unit that are compounded by the boys new friend across the street. The last thing she needs is a pushy doctor trying to use her to get the other nurses to leave him alone. With all the chaos going on around her, Liz soon starts to wonder if moving back to Eastlake was a good move.

Dr. Jeff Carter has been a widower for awhile and plans to keep it that way. In fact the only changes he wants made are on his unit at the hospital. A lot of mistakes have been made recently. If the nurse hadn't acted so quickly, one of his patients could've died. When the new nurse manager shows up, Jeff demands changes on the unit to ensure the safety of all the patients. He's instantly drawn to Liz and can't help falling in love with her. The only problem is she wants nothing to do with him.

It's so refreshing to see authors like Janet Walters writing about real down to earth characters dealing with some real issues. Even though I think the author could've taken this story so much further, there was always something new in every paragraph. I would gladly love to read more of Janet's work.
