Double Play is the first book of a new series. It started out a little slow but quickly caught my interest and by the end of the book I wanted to read more about all the characters. This book has Shalvis's trademark humor, emotional angst, sexual tension, and steamy sex. Holly is a great person, working hard to overcome her less than stellar childhood. She has integrity and isn't afraid to show she has a strong sense of what is right and wrong. Pace's dealings with the media hasn't been that positive so his first meeting with Holly doesn't show his better side, but he soon wins her over with his own sense of fair play even though he does cop an arrogant attitude at times. There is also some endearing traits that both Pace and Holly share that gives the reader insight into their personalities. The author does a great job showing the hard side of being a famous sports star without letting it take over the romance. We also see the camaraderie experienced by all the players. I for one am looking forward to reading more about the Heat players and their management.
