| Leida had run from Magnus, a dragon shapeshifter, four years ago. At the time, she had stolen a small ring from him because she wanted something to remember him by. She was sure he would never miss it, but she found out that she was wrong. At the time of her leaving, she was his chosen slave, and the time they had together had been the greatest of her life. When she realized that she was only going to be one of many favorites for Magnus, she left him. Little did she know that she would end up with a lot more than a ring.
Magnus is hurt and angry that Leida had left him. She was his favorite, and still is. He thought that Leida cared for him, but when she left she made him doubt that. It doesn't matter though, he will do anything to get her back, even have her arrested for the theft of a ring. Then he finds out what she's been hiding all these years, and he's not sure he can ever forgive her. At first, I thought that Leida was a sympathetic character. While she stole from Magnus, she had what she thought were good reasons for what she did, and the punishment seems harsh at first. But as the story goes along and I got to know the characters, I found my sympathy going to Magnus more than Leida. That being said, I liked both characters, and thought that this was a great offering from a talented author. I know that next time a book from her comes up; I'll be grabbing it, because this one was great!
