Trinia has been avoiding her mate, afraid of the disgust she is sure she will see in his eyes. The same horrified look she has seen all her life and the reason she hides herself behind veils.

I enjoyed the story but felt that I was missing part of the information of how and why Trinia is so different to others but her twin is a dragon lord, able to switch between man and dragon. It is said that Brennen is destined to mate to "The Guardian" and his people will accept nothing less. But they don't listen to their Lord, they look to an old blind Fey who claims "The Guardian" will cross a river of fire to reach her house at the base of the volcano.

Trinia is a selfless person, opening herself to the mate she fears in exchange for the safety of her brother's people, even as those same people shun her for her differences. Her fears carry over into her new life as mate to a dragon lord, but his faithfulness to her knows no bounds, threatening to leave his people unless they accept his love.

An intriguing world Ms. Sax has created. I am certainly looking to get the first two books in this series.
