| Nessa and Robert have always been meant for each other. Robert is Robert the Dark, also known as the Dragon Prince. Legend has it that he will save them all. Robert goes off to be trained to his destiny and asks Nessa to wait for him. She does turning down many suitors, since she is beautiful and the sister of the ruler. She is doomed to be disappointed, because upon his return Robert must marry a woman who bears a special mark, and that woman has already been chosen. Nessa is betrayed and heartbroken, because Robert is her destiny. She too has the mark, but has hidden it in fear that she would be sent away or killed. But being together is not the only obstacle that the two face; there are much greater trials and dangers for them ahead.
This is an engrossing fantasy novel. The author has managed to create another world without overburdening the reader with rules and descriptions, yet the reader will have no problem putting her into this place. The characters are very vivid and well drawn. Nessa is very likeable and Robert is appropriately dark and brooding. There is plenty of action and intrigue in the story, leaving few, if any slow points. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy romance.
