Rowena has been chosen to be the virgin sacrifice to the dragon. Rowena fully expects to die even though her grandmother has given her an amulet that is supposed to protect her against dragons. She doesn’t know if the amulet will keep the dragon from taking her away and eating her, or just make it where she doesn’t have pain, or if it will do anything.

Rowena is really surprised when the dragon swoops down and takes her away to his lair, and even more surprised when the dragon talks to her. Rowena finds out that he doesn’t kill the women, that he doesn’t eat man.

Viridiseffulgentissmus Or “Virid” for humans is excited Rowena has an amulet with dragon language on it and her blood tastes like she might have dragon descendants. This is very exciting news for he has looked for his mate for centuries and now feels that he has found her in Rowena. Rowena doesn’t believe Virid at first until she tastes his blood and transforms into a dragon. The sex is hot and intense in human and dragon form between them. Virid is hoping that they will have a child since dragon kind are becoming extinct, but Rowena is concerned and a little frightened at the thought that her child could be a dragon. But it doesn’t take long for Rowena to find herself pregnant and she really wonders what her child will be.

Virid and Rowena start having problems when she wants to go back and see her family. But Virid doesn’t understand this human emotionally needs to have family and knows that she would be in danger from the villagers. Rowena starts making plans and lying to Virid to go see her family. Will Rowena’s need to see her family put her and her baby and Virid in danger? Will they find happiness and be able to be together with so many differences between them?

This is a very well done paranormal romance with exciting love scenes. But the added element of Rowena having to learn to adapt to dragon ways makes this a very good emotional read. I also found Virid’s having to learn to comprise and accept Rowena’s human needs added a very nice dimension to the story. This is a very wonderful and exciting read.
