Tempest has been taught to hide her powers and not admit what she is, for her father is afraid for her life. Her father does not want to see his daughter burned for being a witch. If it wasn't for Miriam the lady who helps raise Tempest she would have no training in her craft since Tempest's mother rejected her and hates her daughter. Tempest is amazed one day when she sees two dragons fighting - one is black and one is golden. They are both hurt but the black gives way. The gold dragon swoops down and picks her up and takes her away. She is even further amazed when she talks to the dragon and understands him. She comes to like and trust him. She wants to help the dragon for she has healing powers, but he tells her he needs dragon healing and leaves her.

Adrian is wounded and dying, left by the evil Sardon the black dragon. And he would die without the intervention of two very old gods. These two gods like to watch and play games with dragon and human lives. They turn Adrian into a wounded human. Tempest finds him by the tree that has always been her refuge. She has gone to the tree this time because her father wants her to marry and has chosen her future husband. She has agreed to marry this man because her father wishes it but she isn't happy. She has always wanted to love the man she marries. Tempest takes Adrian back to the castle and works hard at healing him in the process she starts to fall in love with him, but she has already been pledged and promised to William and she won't break her promise.

Adrian doesn't remember being a dragon, but he does know in his heart that Tempest is his chosen bride, and he will not rest until he has convinced her of this fact. Sardon is lurking in the background working against everyone as he has taken human form and becomes William's priest. He wants to make Tempest his mate so he can defeat the gold. Then there will be no more gold dragons for Adrian is the last.

This is a fantastic book with loads of action and adventure. The characters are very well developed and the interaction between all of them is very well done. The love between Adrian and Tempest is innocent, strong and very powerful. The suspense of waiting for the love to develop between them and wondering if Tempest will come in and accept her powers in time to stop Sardon and to help Adrian will have you reading until you finish the book. This is one very powerful and exciting paranormal romance.
