| Eartha is fleeing for her life. She's spent the last five years as a slave, but lived in eternal hope that she would be free. Her master had been gone for a few days, and in the process the guards had relaxed. She took her chance, and now is trying to escape the chase. When she goes into a bar, she picks out a man that she thinks might protect her. Even if she has to give him her body, it could be no worse than what she's been doing, and then she might be free. She never imagined just who she was choosing…
Arrik occasionally liked to come out of his territory and mingle with the humans, if only to remind himself of what they are like. He hasn't really wanted a woman in years, but when a beautiful woman comes through the door he's suddenly interested again. She needs his protection, and he's more than willing to give it. This is definitely a page turner! The characters came alive for me and I sympathized with both of them, and hoped for a happy ending. One of the best things about this story is Eartha, who was a strong person who had a brutal life, but didn't let it break her spirit. After so many years as a slave, I was cheering her on as she found the courage to escape. Arrik initially came off as slightly removed from everyone, just like he should because of his situation, but as the story went on I really felt like I got to know and like him. Drakon's Treasure is an outstanding story that I couldn't put down, and it really deserves it's 5 heart rating.
