| After a truly horrible marriage, Kit Anderson is finally on the verge of
finishing up her doctorate, but needs some money to help out. She applies
for a job with Dr. Carl Roddenberg and has an interview she must make it to;
of course, it's at night. On the way, two very strong, very determined and
very scary men accost her. During the struggle, she kills one and incites
the wrath of the second. She escapes them by running into a building,
ignoring the fact that she slid through a door that was opened less than an
inch.
Carl did not ignore the security film showing her harrowing escape, nor the DNA results he gathered from her. He knows a lot more than he is telling her. He is part of a Community of people that he must keep secret and safe. Kit and Carl find love within each other even though there are a plethora of secrets surrounding them. Carl must keep Kit safe from a rogue vampire intent on killing Kit. Kit is an extremely strong woman. She survived a bad marriage, she is different from anyone in her family and she refuses to stand down from a fight. Carl battles his ultra-protective side to let her be who she is. Kit finds out amazing things about herself that she had forgotten. Those things could make all the difference in the fight for her life. Ms. Walder does a superb job showing the strength in her characters. Kit has such inner resolve that the reader cannot help but want her to fight this threat to her life on her own. The lone item keeping me from fully enjoying this book was the excessive use of dialogue between the characters; I felt it took away the impact - the emotional turmoil it needed to be great. Overall, it was a good read, filled with strong characters, strong writing talent, and good plot.
