Terra is an elite-fighting carrier who takes the time to help train other carriers whenever he is able. But Terra decides to stop the training and has asked to be relocated to the town of Hornview. For Terra has been experiencing dreams of a human woman from that village. The woman is a gatherer, which makes things even better. For it is said that when a gatherer and a carrier share dreams they are destined to mate for life.

Inez is a gatherer and has been sharing dreams with Terra for a while now, but she doesn’t want things to change. Inez loves her freedom and being able to ride and help her people by gathering the rock blood her people need to combat the plaque. She is afraid that if she marries that she will have to give up all her freedom to her husband.

Terra knows that he must convince Inez that he doesn’t want to curtail her freedom, that he wants to share this as well as ever aspect of their lives together. When he does convince her to share their life they are very happy, but they have an enemy in the form of Casper, the human that is captain of the chieftain’s personal guard. When more carriers are needed in the village due to outbreak of plague in other towns two new carriers arrive. One is very welcome since he was Terra’s best student, the other is not exactly welcomed as he is sloppy and doesn’t care for humans. Linn starts to work right away and starts having a relationship with the healer in the village. Kraig gets on everyone’s nerves and causes accidents.

Things really go wrong when Kraig and Casper team up and decide to steal the rock blood, and they also decide to plot away to kill Terra and Inez. Now Terra has to be able to fly stronger and faster than he ever has to protect his lady and their life together.

Ms. Hill has created a wonderful world where centaurs and people have learned to live and love together. The sexual heat between Inez and Terra is so strong you will need ice water to cool down. The added suspense of the rivalry and hatred that Kraig has for Terra will keep you spellbound as you read. This one will have me rereading it often in the future.
