| Rick Monroe was a race car driver making his way through life trying to rise to the top in his career. He had a working relationship with Angela Warren, mechanical engineer for Warren Manufacturing. For the past three years, through e-mail and the phone, Rick had tried to meet Angela; however, circumstances prohibited it.
After a terrible racing week, having two oil pumps which blow up and cause many problems on the race track (the second totaled his car), Rick and his team demanded that the best person Warren Manufacturing had should come immediately to analyze and repair the problem. If not, Warren Manufacturing would suffer greatly. Of course, when Angela was spotted under the race car, pulled out and interrogated, all the team members (men) questioned her credentials. She assured them that she knew what she was doing, but you can imagine the circumstances under which she then had to work! Rick took advantage of her being in his garage; he offered to take her to dinner before she fell over from lack of sleep. The next few days were a roller coaster ride for both of them. This short story has a wonderful flow and ease of reading which makes for a blockbuster! I really enjoyed reading this story of how, even without actually ever meeting someone, through a working relationship you can truly identify a kindred spirit! And when circumstances warrant, sometimes the best action you can take is the unexpected.
