Carole Janine VanDemont/CJ is a wealthy, rather spoiled woman looking for another thrill in life. The Uncle she usually travels with to exotic places has died. Her brother points out an ad in a magazine. In it is a man that truly piques her interest and she heads west to La Riata Dude Ranch. Cameron Greenway isn’t impressed with her but decides she seems like the most fun of any guest he’s seen. Each is intent on wooing the other just for the sake of a conquest but find much more.

Deirdre O’Dare does her usual excellent job of building a place that is rich with heritage, history and challenge. Into the scene she paints her characters to fit the broad landscape and be strong enough to live in it. Cameron has been reared in a wealthy family, could be just as much a rich city dweller as any. But he’s drawn to the land as a part of himself.

CJ is bored with city life, the insipid romances and weak men in her life. Something about the land also calls to her. The real man who is Cameron thrills her just with being who he is, with his gentleness and of course the great body. On a hunt for a puma CJ finds a part of herself she really didn’t know was there. Something about the land, the beast, the hunt and the death of the animal strikes a chord in her she’s never known before.

This is a great story of characters living up to the land that speaks to their heart. It’s also a story of CJ growing into her potential not only with Cameron but as a caring human being. All of that plus some great eroticism make this a book well worth the read.
