Lily is one of the less scandalous Boscastles, but her broken engagement has caused a stir and she must escape Society for a time. She decides that she will take a job as a housekeeper despite her lack of experience and hopes for a position far outside of London. The Duke of Gravenhurst met Lily at his publisher's annual masquerade and fell instantly in love with her. He is a radical rogue and rake with a reputation to rival the most scandalous of Lily's cousins, but very few know that he is also the notorious novelist Lord Anonymous, writer of sensational romances. With his connivance, Lily becomes his housekeeper and the rakish Duke begins his courtship, and his next novel.

Jillian Hunter is one of my favorite Historical authors. She creates the most unusual and unforgettable characters. Samuel, the duke is by turns rakish, bookish, sensitive, and totally oblivious, an author to the core. Lily is a devoted reader of romances but at heart very practical and full of common sense. The two are perfect for each other, but their rocky romance make things doubtful at times. The other characters in the story are as unique as the hero and heroine, the members of the duke's household are definitely not your typical servants. The plot has everything to keep a reader interested; two attractive, likable and intelligent main characters, a bizarre and memorable supporting cast, humor, romance, and a bit of suspense. This series has been one of my favorites and this story is a welcome addition. I loved Samuel and Lily and was totally absorbed in their story.
