Someone or something is committing horrible murders in Prague. The murderer leaves writing in a language unknown to Detective Sofie Angeletti. Through her cousin Magda at Sundown International, she tracks down an ancient language expert from Oxford, Dr. Finn McCready. Things are bound to get interesting. Sofie is a werewolf in denial; she claims that they don’t exist and neither do any other paranormal beings. Unfortunately, the murder victims are vampires, Finn is an oversexed Elf, and the murderer is the Elfking, long thought dead. If he isn’t stopped there will be a full-scale war among the paranormal.

Sofie is an interesting character. She denies that she is a werewolf, yet she keeps a dog bed in her home, an old theater, so that she won’t shed on the bed. Finn keeps losing his jobs because women find him irresistible, except for the paranormal. Sofie and her hidden nature intrigue him. Sofie is attracted to Finn, but does not want to be one in a cast of thousands, so she does her best to resist him. The Elfking is caught in his own little time warp. He has come back to save the Elves, but they have already been saved, and he just doesn’t get it. Sofie’s boss is pretty awful; he hates her and would fire her if she did not solve all of her cases. It also does not hurt that her father is a high placed government official, Ambassador to the U.S. The vampires are no longer the bad guys, having reached a truce ages ago, but the Elfking has targeted the oldest vampire who just happens to be the mate of the most powerful vampire, things are not looking good. The author has done a great job of combining romance, suspense, and humor in this fast moving story.
