Magnus Corp is a company who has/does business in space. When we first meet Jax, he is a lab assistant who has just been told that there are no funds left for his job. Since Jax is in space and had been earning minimal dollars for his lab work he is panicking. The only job that he is qualified for is the one for ship's counselor. This is a job he had been trained for years before. Basically, when ships are traveling in deep space, it was discovered it was best for the crews to be all homosexual men. Apparently the testosterone levels in the men can get a little out of control., Iit is the ship's counselor’s job to service each crew member sexually. I’m not sure what I was thinking this novella was about when I read the blurb, but it was more and yet less than I thought. Jax accepts the job on the Vieux Carre, a ship with five other crew members: Logan Forge is the captain, Foster the navigator, Malvers the med-tech, LeBlanc the systems engineer and Calvin the rookie. Jax has to council them up to twice a week to help maintain their hormone levels. I thought the way Jax dealt with each of the men was interesting, and it was very obvious that Jax and Forge had not only some chemistry but some personal issues with each other. I am a huge fan of Ms. Lorenz and have read many of her novellas/novels. I felt that the first half of this story went at too slow a pace, it wasn’t boring, just slow. The second half is when it all picked up. There is a bit of a whodunit, some sex and even some love-making. I enjoyed the relationship that Jax and Forge had, and I was on the edge of my seat waiting to discover ‘who’. This is a good story, it just wasn’t as good as I had been expecting. I still love Ms. Lorenz’s work, I still love Amber Quill Press and I will be purchasing more from them both! Overall rating:
