Adrianna Barrington wants to move the bodies of her dead husband's family to a new cemetery as part of the sale of Thornton estates. When she starts getting cards and letters supposedly from her dead husband, the plot thickens. Detective Gage Hudson, a man she had a brief affair with, takes charge of the case. As the two battle their own emotions the suspense builds when movers find more bodies in the cemetery than should be there.

Mary Burton's books always call to me. In my mind her name personifies some of the best suspense mixed with romance to be found anywhere. This book is no exception. The characters have real lives with complications that make them more likeable. Hudson and Vega, his partner on the force, have some of the best dialogue in a book filled with some great verbal sparring among the characters.

The plot builds in a way that keeps our mind working to figure out who could be committing the crimes. Adrianna has a birth family, an adoptive family and a family through marriage. Her long lost sister Kendall is a gem, unlike many others in her extended relationships. Ms. Burton builds empathy or frustration with some of the secondary characters subtly when she wants or makes it easy to decide who we like and don‘t at other times. Good guys/gals walk a fine line in life and in her book. Current crimes and past crimes are linked in a way to make them even more difficult to work through but Ms. Burton is a pro at this. She weaves the story to a conclusion that just feels right. This is a great work that should satisfy even the most demanding readers who want the best suspense stories around.
