The Earl of Winterhaven is cursed, but refuses to believe in it. All the men in his family die after their thirty-fifth birthday if they do not marry for love. Nicholas is weeks away from that fateful birthday, when his betrothed betrays him for his best friend. Fate intervenes when he is caught in a compromising position with Emma Cartwright, engineered by that same former friend. Emma has her own curse. She sees the death of anyone she has skin to skin contact with. Not everyone dies peacefully in bed, and her visions can be horrifying, so she naturally does not want to marry, but once again Fate has other plans for the couple..

I really enjoyed this unusual romance. Emma’s form of telemetry could drive a lesser person insane, but she has managed to rise above it. I expected more of her Aunt, particularly one who also has a paranormal ability, but selfishness won out there. Nicholas has no idea why the warm and sympathetic woman he was engaged to turns into a cold and unfeeling woman and his former friend’s visit adds to the drama. Nicholas’ own curse is much more virulent and the only thing I would change in the novel would be to have the curse end completely at some point in the book. His brothers should start looking around quickly. The other characters are very well written and I would be interested in seeing a story about Charlotte and whatever ability the future will bring her. The plot is well written and absorbing capturing the era and its people very well as well as bringing an interesting paranormal element into this very good romance.
