| Kheyra Baal is a vampire and a submissive. Coming from a planet that is dominated by alpha females, she felt like the odd one out. As an obedient daughter from a prominent family, her life has been planned for her – even down to having her marriage arranged for her by her family. Wanting to experience what it was like to be dominated by a man before settling down to married life, she escaped to Earth to fulfill her sexual fantasies.
Deacon Quincy is a vampire and a dominant. He doesn’t know what to make of Kheyra who had inadvertently landed in his hunting territory. Unwilling to be attracted to another vampire, he tries to drive her away. I was appalled, to say the least, by the way Deacon treated Kheyra from their first meeting. Physically abusing and humiliating her was his way of trying to drive her away from him even though he’s sexually attracted to her. I must admit that I didn’t like the hero at all in the beginning, and I was frustrated with Kheyra’s behavior for not only accepting his cruelty to her, but explaining it away and still come back for more seems a bit unrealistic in view of her background. Only towards the middle and later part of the book did the hero redeemed himself somewhat when he couldn’t help but fall in love with Kheyra and treated her more kindly. There were some unanswered questions left at the end which I hope the author would clear up in another book. For example, even though Kheyra’s brother, Dargon, was only mentioned and does not actually appear in the story, I would like to know what will happen to him and how he will survive on a planet that treats males as submissives when he’s not one.
