| Coming of age is hard enough without realizing you're a werewolf to
boot. When Kyne, a young girl just coming into her own realizes she
harbors a monster inside herself, she's more than a little worried.
Her people have a habit of destroying the bukri, the werewolves like
the one who bit her and turned her into one of them. But her fate
isn't to be death at the hands of her people. She's sent away instead
to foster at the Red King's court. There, she finds a life very
different from the one she knew; a life full of laws, rules, chivalry
and etiquette. It's only in the presence of Jasper, the king's
personal advisor, that she feels truly at ease. But will the beast
inside her soul jeopardize Kyne's only chance at happiness?
Ebb Moon is a pleasant, quick read. Part of the HeatSheet "Shiver" series of books with a paranormal Halloween edge, Ms. Veinglory's offering certainly fits the theme. A well-told story, Ebb Moon is enlivened by likable characters who find the shelter they crave in each other's arms. Jasper has as much need of Kyne as she has of him, which makes their relationship a sweet, believable one. Although the sex scenes aren't as explicit as I would have expected from an erotic story, the sensual encounters fit the characters and the world Ms. Veinglory has created. Intriguing detail and elegant writing make this a lovely book to curl up with before bedtime.
