Alixandera Whittaker was a world famous photographer. While filming state parks for a magazine, Alix had a mishap with her parachute. She ended up in the hospital battered and bruised with a broken leg. Her ex-husband Zach generously offers to care for her while she's recuperating if she would use her photography skills at a dig site he was helping with in Arkansas. They were looking for Civil War memorabilia around a old resort hotel. Hidden Springs was once a fashionable spa up until the late Victorian period. It had been empty for years then re-opened as a asylum for the insane. When inmates started to disappear, investigations were done by the authorities and the place was once again closed down.

The plot was interesting enough but there was entirely too much dialogue. When the characters sat down for meals or just talked face to face, their conversation could of been summed up to keep it from being too drawn out. I loved the characters. Paul, the head of the group was almost sickening sweet with his southern charm. Professor Payne, was just like his name, A PAIN. Three students, though minor characters did have impact on the story. Zach with his always picture perfect fiance Deborah. With the over-long dialogue the story dragged in spots but the ending made up for it. It was a good mystery climax.
