| Countess Marina Wyatt, Countess of Gorham is a novelist. The upper-class widow has a habit of bedding a lover usually during the London Season. Because of her behavior, she is at the scrutiny of public scandal. Jasper Hedges is a liberal scholar who dabbles into returning antiquities to the country they belong. He is the guardian of a young man, Anthony, said to be his son, even though the secret stays mum. Jasper highly frowns upon the relationships of the widow Marina and intends to speak of his dislike when he attends a party at her home. What started out as Jasper putting the woman in her place, turned into an attraction hard to deny. He finds Marina a precious piece of art. As their liaison develops, Marina finds herself at the mercy of a blackmailer. With secrets begging to unravel with Jasper's past, and his present with Marina , will the two be able to make their relationship a lasting treasure?
The Edge of Impropriety certainly is a read the reader will grow to cherish. Marina and Jasper are great characters, different than day and night, almost, but together they blend in a harmony that kept this reader interested. Jasper is a believable player the way he handles obstacles that get in his path. He shows his human side when he hates how his resentments get the better of him. I thought the way he tries to sell the sculptures back to use the money to help matters was another good trait in him. With a bit of villainy along the way, numerous vibrant characters that lend more to the storyline, Pam Rosenthal pens an enchanting well-spun historical romance. I thought her writing style was well knowledgeable, and her characters seem to carry themselves well, with an ending I enjoyed.
