Callista formerly a member of the Mercy is now suspended and a vampire slayer on her own. She is determined to find and eliminate Lord Halifax, the vampire who tortured and killed her younger sister Hestia. Valerian, a member of The Brotherhood has been sent to find information about Halifax’s activities. He meets and is totally captivated by Callista, feeling emotions for the first time in centuries. The Brotherhood has other plans for Valerian and his brothers Cashel and Raphael are determined to separate the lovers. Lord Halifax is determined to kill the slayer known as Petit Mort.

This is a great beginning to what looks like a promising series. Callista is everything a vampire slayer should be, fearless, strong, and lethal. Valerian, the fallen angel has never met anyone like her before and the two fall in love in spite of themselves. Lord Halifax is the perfect villain; he is evil and plans bad things but never actually gets his hands dirty. His henchman Ruff is pretty much the same as his name. Valerian’s brothers do their best to look out for him, but neither approves of his emotional displays. Cashel eventually understands having experienced love himself once with less happy results. The plot is a roller coaster ride of action, violence and sensuality, with a climax that is truly spectacular. The rest of this series should be pretty exciting.
