Jeff Duncan has spent the last ten years of his life working for the DEA. His latest bust may have deeper implications. He's ready to quit, but his boss needs help from Megan O'Conner. Jeff kissed her when she was 16 and he was 18. They had an affair 4 years later. She's the girl he can't forget. Now she's getting established as an artist, ready to open a gallery for wealthy Vinnie Devlin. And Vinnie may be involved with the drug trafficking.

Megan seems to lead a charmed life. She gets whatever she needs. But perhaps its not just good luck.

Eugene Cranston is a lawyer with designs on Megan. Vinnie's mother Antonia is a scary lady, and Megan's mom Helen seems to be one as well. She certainly doesn't want her daughter involved with Jeff. Vinnie's girlfriend Rita seems to hate Megan, as well. There's a full cast of relatives, all with secrets. The plot twists and turns, leaving the reader guessing.

Author Snodgrass is a fantastic wordsmith, artfully describing the Southwestern landscape. Her book is crammed with fascinating scenarios. There's a gold mine, a flash flood, and more than twenty deaths. Snodgrass gives us precious jewels, DNA tests, and a 50 year old love story sweet enough to make the reader cry.

This is a highly entertaining mystery and a passionate love story. The reader needs to stay focussed to keep the action straight. The effort is well worth it. Recommended.
