| Logan Shoemaker has turned an inheritance from his Aunt into the place of his dreams. Shoemaker's Magick Shoppe makes him a good living until the economy starts to spiral downward. In a sad, inebriated state of mind he cries out to whatever powers there may be to help him. He awakens to find a pointed ear man in his bed who promises to help him. Hallan Greystone is essentially a prisoner in his own land of Lamerion. He's at the beck and call of the nasty King Zolodon. Logan and Hallan want to break the spell of the magic mirror that has brought them together before the king gets rid of Hallan permanently.
M. L. Rhodes knits together a sweet love story with different personifications of people who believe in what they can't see. Hallan can't be seen by Logan when he appears to him, loves him, or he'll be sucked back to his own world. Logan loves what Hallan is, his personality, before ever seeing that he's a gorgeous man. King Zolodon, on the other hand, never sees Hallan do anything wrong but hates and fears him. He believes Hallan is bad so treats him as if he's a bad person. Mrs. Khovansky, Logan's neighbor, believes in love, the afterlife, and the voices that speak to lonely people. She's quite a free and feisty spirit at an indeterminate older age. What a concept this is in the middle of a totally mesmerizing romance. The author weaves this into a tale of survival in hard times by not being afraid to trust in others. Logan, like many of us, needs others to help him believe. Hallan is like is guardian angel watching over him through the mirror until he's able to ask for help. This is one of those tales full of smiles, eroticism, and a depth of humanity that Ms. Rhodes tells so well.
