The Emerald Dagger

Barbara Hodges
Fantasy romance
Available from Tigress Press
June 2003

Kelsey Cafferty is engaged to marry Duncan, but before she does she must return through the rift to another world, Daradawn. There she is the Queens-Commander. She misses her sister Reagan who lives in Daradawn. She misses Reagan's children, Regan's husband Peter, even the dwarves and fairies and Dragons of the land. She also misses Rourk, her love, whom she had to leave because he married another woman. The rift only opens once every seven years for a short time. Just as she is about to leave, Delilah, Ben's daughter that he does not know exists appears. Ben is a human living in Daradawn, who loves an elven healer. Delilah desperately needs her father, because her son is dying and only Ben can save him.

Before she can go through the rift, Kelsey is in a horrible car accident, and only Peter coming through the rift to the human world to save her with his power, keeps her alive. Kelsey leaves the hospital and makes it to the rift. She goes through, and is joined by Delilah who has followed her.

In Daradawn the evil Dirkk is using the power of an Emerald Dagger to enslave fairies, turning them into demons that will kill for him as they ride on the back of wolves. They have killed the baby dragon of Zeya, one of the Queen's defender dragons. Dirkk wants to rule over Daradawn with Reagan for his bride. As Queens-commander, Kelsey must defend the land and her sister from his evil. She has only the few days until the rift closes again to do so, then must choose between her old life and this one, between one Duncan and Rourk.

THE EMERALD DAGGER is a wonderful fantasy, lots of action with unicorns and Dragons and fairies and everything a reader could wish. I am very pleased to recommend it to all lovers of fantasy and fairy tales, old or young.
