Chandra is finally set to escape the barren life in the cult that she has grown up in. The man she’s been dreaming of for a long time has told her that she must go on the next mission that her commanders go on. It’s a big mission to destroy vampires, because the cult she’s in believes that vampires are evil and deserve no mercy. She’s never really believed what they taught her, but has learned over the years to conform just enough to survive and tries to stay off the radar. When she finally gets to the place that they plan to attack, there are a lot of surprises in store… for both her and the man who is her mate.

I thought that in this story the two characters where not consistent, particularly Alexi. He was supposed to be this alpha male, very powerful and unable to let his mate be in danger, particularly before they were permanently mated. Therefore I was surprised when she ends up in a fight to the death within hours of meeting him, and he let it happen. While I have to concede that he was being held back, I have a problem with him initially saying yes to the fight. It made no sense, as she was near death an hour before that from something else. During the fight she ends up nearly getting killed in front of him. I would have thought he’d be insane with the need to protect her by then because of all the issues that are happening. He also kind of lost his alpha status after a while and ended up looking a little inept because of some of the other things that happened in the story. I think what was happening to him was supposed to be endearing, but it didn’t turn out that way. I couldn’t believe how many times Chanda nearly died, it was remarkable. I liked the idea of the story, and that Chandra was such a powerful woman fully capable of fighting her own battles and dealing with the aftermath.
