Derek feels there's something missing from his relationship with Jeremy, something he can't ask for. A friend suggests he try seeking what he wants online. He finds an ad that sounds like what he wants he goes ahead with email communication and then sets up a tryst.

Jade Falconer has done a gay version of a tale of lovers looking for the type of love they don't want to tell one another about. She tells us they love each other, they both profess it throughout the story. But when Derek is frustrated and a 'friend' suggests he looks for another lover on the side he goes for it. Whew! Some friend. And in both gay and straight relationships, that's pretty drastic measures.

I think the author may have fallen into the trap of just doing a stereotypical story of gay lovers. They kiss and coo and profess their love but they don't work on their communication. Instead Derek is just lucky enough to find his lover instead of some weirdo in that hotel room.

I know people enjoy these stories. There's erotic sex between the guys. There's a happy ending for them. I just cringe when I see stereotypes fed, even in fiction. I like Jade Falconer's work most of the time but this is just not my cup of tea.
