| After 400 years, Dmitri and his clan are finally returning to earth after being exiled to space. They have traveled the universe to find substance, but none can match the appeal and nourishment that human blood can give them. They are vampires, and the humans had managed to chase them off earth in a huge battle all those years ago. Now they are back and trying to save the human race from a menace that they can't seem to defeat, the Carpathians. If the Carpathians win, they will try to take over the world and make slaves of the humans, unlike Dmitri and his clan. When Dmitri and his crew arrive on earth, he immediately feels his life mate, and knows that his long wait was over. His mate, Zanna, is the leader of the human resistance and doesn't know him at all. Will she come to him? Or believe all the propaganda that has been told about his race since he left?
Eternal Damnation had some great ideas and sounded like a really good book. Once I started reading it though, I had a hard time really caring about the characters, because they never felt real to me, or very likeable. Zanna is unbending and seemed to be jumping about in her character. One minute she was a hardened battle commander, and the next she was putting up with an attitude from one of her subordinates that no one would put up with in the middle of a battle. Dmitri is supposed to be king of his people, but seems more concerned about getting into Zanna's pants that whether he leads them or not. I had a hard time following the story, it seemed to jump around a lot and not flow very smoothly. I would have liked this story more if there had been more character development, and jumped around less. I thought that Eternal Damnation had a lot of potential, and near the end it looked like there might be a sequel to it. I would still like to see what happens to Dmitri and Zanna, because I really like the premise of the story, and I think that Ashley Ladd has a lot of promise as an author.
