| The kids at school hated Sabrina, called her inbred and impure. She didn't
know why, until the taunts at last sent her home in tears. When her mother
saw how upset she was, she told her about her ancestor Charlotte Devours.
The story offered an explanation of the rumors and of how their family had lost everything except for their ancestral home.
Sabrina dreams of going to college, then becoming a journalist, but without a scholarship she will never be able to go. In her teens she becomes quite beautiful, and her classmates are jealous, tormenting her about her family and her K-mart clothes. Even moving to a more upscale neighborhood doesn't help. Sabrina is a Devour. Just before her 16th birthday a gorgeous new young man appears in church. She is surprised when he notices her. She is even more surprised when he but attends her 16th birthday party with a family friend, Amanda, and pays attention to her. She doesn't know it yet but meeting Richard will change the course of her life... EVEN ANGELS FALL is a coming-of-age story, and a good one. It begins slowly, and builds to a powerful climax. Sabrina is well developed as a character, as are her parents. Richard I had trouble getting to know, but even Sabrina didn't know him as well was she thought she did, so maybe that's okay. He did make things interesting. The house has a personality of its own, and I would have liked to know how it did some of the terrible things it was supposed to have done. Mainly, the book could have used a better editor. There are misused words, repetitions, and in places an excess of description. I recommend it to readers who like the paranormal.
