Grant Scott normally works construction but enjoys helping out part time at the lingerie shop Leather and Lace. Allison Wilson has been Grants best friend for years, works also at Leather and Lace, and is very important also to his 6 year old daughter Cherie. Cheries mother had left them, later dying in a car accident, and Allison had made so many things easier for the two, just by being there for them. Allison doesnt have any inkling that Grant harbours anything other than friendly feelings for her and that he fights with himself every time he is with her. Grant doesnt have the slightest idea that Allison loves him but would never make a move to show him her feelings.

Allison and Grant had always been good friends but the bond was strengthened irrevocably one night in high school, when Grants father beat him up badly. He knew no where else to go, other than to Allison, who nursed him back to health. His innate fears that his urge to dominate, to possess, are inherited from his father and would chase Allison away if she knew, make him hesitate to declare himself to her. Allison is burdened by the fact that she is unable to have children and doesnt make any move to show him her love, because she feels that Grant deserves someone better than she; a woman who would be able to give him more children. The two run around each other on pins and needles, with the relationship getting more explosive and you know something has to give. It does and their relationship undergoes a very drastic change.

This is a wonderful story about two people overcoming their insecurities, by allowing the love begun in friendship to evolve into something even stronger, even beyond their spicy sexual relationship. Each has something that the other needs to be fulfilled and the fact that Allison isnt entirely submissive makes for a very enjoyable, very recommended read.
